BEACONS

Beacons (2017-Present) is the overarching name of artist-lead exhibitions & projects happening sporadically, collaboratively, as and when, organised by Rebecca Halliwell-Sutton.

The title was taken from a tumblr post by Jesse Darling ‘A letter to a friend’ - “…if theres any kind of community for a person like me they are all out there distributed across time and space. And that resonated a lot for me, and it seems to resonate with what you’re saying here. This person explained that the things I make in the world will operate as beacons and the people w whom I am kin, twin, common - they’ll find me that way, like ships in a storm”

To mark the class of 2022 Royal Academy Schools degree show I compiled a 44 minute archive of fragmented audio from our lecture & talk programme 2018-2022. Opening up the private space of the lecture room, each classmate chose an artist talk, lecture or seminar that has stayed with them. What results is a meandering collection of thoughts, propositions & sounds.
With thanks to the artists & lecturers permission.
